Are you really surprised: Ciroc not rocking with the Black Models?

Another black company that doesn’t want black models, I am sadly not stunned. It’s bad enough that mainstream society tells black women they aren't beautiful or worthy of gracing the covers of their magazines, staring in their shows or selling their products, but it’s a real shame that black companies participate in the marginalization of their own people. The latest company being put under the microscope is Diageo’s junction with Sean “Diddy” Combs Ciroc Premium Vodka brand. A blunt casting call has revealed something that we already knew, they don’t want black models, but they will settle for one or two that just look tan. The casting call was listed on an ethic model website (how ironic) and went as follows:

“Ciroc Promotion. Ciroc promo is this Friday, March 27, 2009. Time: 3:00pm-7:00pm and 12:00am – 3:00am Requirements: Race: White, hispanic or light skinned african american. Height: At least 5’6 or taller. Size 7 or smaller. This is a cash @ wrap job and the booking will be thru our partner. Please submit asap. Talent will only be contacted if the client is interested in booking you!!! Compensation: $35.00 per hour.”

Diddy and his camp have stated that they weren't in charge the casting call, a black own modeling agency was supposedly . This whole thing is a deplorable mess because now that these parties are being called out they have to scramble up a story to make this seem like an accident, when this is just what they do. They attempted to move from de-facto to in-facto discrimination and it blew up in their faces because someone actually complained. Look at other Ciroc commercials, and commercials done by black brands in general there are no black women not because of some repeated mistake, but because that's how they want it. Wow how do we really expect anybody else to think black women are attractive when our own men don't feel that way.
